October 2, 2023
Good Morning Gardiner Hawks! These are your announcements for Monday, October 2nd
Please stand if you’d like to participate in the Pledge of Allegiance. If you choose not to participate, please remain respectfully silent.
I pledge allegiance to the flag of the United States of America, and to the
Republic for which it stands, one nation under God, indivisible, with liberty and
justice for all.
You may be seated.
We also take time today to read our land acknowledgement. This is in front of our school near the office. Come by and take a look!
We acknowledge the land on which we sit and occupy today as the traditional home of the tribal nations, Clackamas, Watlala also known as Cascades, Clowwewalla also known as Willamette Tumwaters, and Northern Molalla. All of whom were relocated after signing the Willamette Valley Treaty of 1855 to the Grand Ronde Reservation and today their descendants are members of the Confederated Tribes of Grand Ronde. With gratitude, we look forward to the generations for whom this will be a place of learning.
September 15th to October 15th is Hispanic Heritage Month. Ellen Ochoa was an astronaut with NASA. She was the first Hispanic person to go to space in 1993.
Attention ALL Gardiner students, For the month of October we are holding a school-wide contest. Gardiner students are respectful, responsible, safe and kind. Responsible students get to class on time and are prepared to learn. Therefore, for the month of October, the neighborhood team with the fewest number of tardies will win 15 additional minutes of recess. Remember, get to class on time, and let's do this, Gardiner!
Throughout the year we want to recognize students who demonstrate certain traits. During September and October, teachers are looking for students who demonstrate being responsible. At the end of October we will host a VIP breakfast, where you can invite your family and you will be recognized before school. You’ll also be recognized at an all-school assembly for the great things you do! Let’s go, Gardiner Hawks!
Today kicks off National Banned Books Week. Banned Books Week is a celebration of our freedom to read whatever age-appropriate materials we want to read in our schools. Check out the banned books display this week in the ALC and participate in the banned books challenge to expand your worldview and win prizes!
Interested in joining backpack buddies? Backpack buddies is a non-profit program that offers children non-perishable bags of food for the weekend and some breaks. You can pick up a permission slip in the student support center and return it to Ms. Hernandez or Mrs. Shelton.
