September 18, 2023
Good Morning Gardiner Hawks! These are your announcements for Monday, September 18th
Please stand if you’d like to participate in the Pledge of Allegiance. If you choose not to participate, please remain respectfully silent.
I pledge allegiance to the flag of the United States of America, and to the
Republic for which it stands, one nation under God, indivisible, with liberty and
justice for all.
You may be seated.
We also take time today to read our land acknowledgement. This is in front of our school near the office. Come by and take a look!
We acknowledge the land on which we sit and occupy today as the traditional home of the tribal nations, Clackamas, Watlala also known as Cascades, Clowwewalla also known as Willamette Tumwaters, and Northern Molalla. All of whom were relocated after signing the Willamette Valley Treaty of 1855 to the Grand Ronde Reservation and today their descendants are members of the Confederated Tribes of Grand Ronde. With gratitude, we look forward to the generations for whom this will be a place of learning.
At Gardiner we want all of our students to be respectful, responsible, safe, and kind. Staff members are always looking out for these behaviors and recognizing them with Gardiner Gotchas, Positive Shout Outs, Bus Bucks, Sub Bucks, and more! When you receive these recognitions you have the opportunity to redeem them for prizes and privileges.
One way you can submit Gotchas is in the box in the Welcome Center. Every Friday student and staff member names will be drawn, and those people will receive spins on the prize wheel in the Welcome Center. Your neighborhood of teachers may have special prizes, too! We also draw Gardiner Gotchas at every assembly!
September 15th to October 15th is Hispanic Heritage Month. September 15th is significant for five Hispanic countries: Costa Rica, El Salvador, Guatemala, Honduras, and Nicaragua celebrate their Independence Days on that date. Mexico and Chile celebrate independence later in September and October.
Tomorrow is School Picture Day! You can purchase pictures online up to 4 days after pictures are taken. We also have a supply of paper order forms in the Welcome Center. You can pick one up before school, during lunch or after school.
At Picture Day, you’ll receive your ID card for the year. It’s important to keep this in a safe place where you can get it when you need it. Your ID card will be used to check out equipment at recess, to get into OCHS football games, and more. We also suggest that you take a photo of your ID card in case you forget to take it to the football game.
The online Gardiner Spirit Gear Store is now open!! You can buy T-shirts, hoodies, zip-ups, and long sleeve shirts with the Gardiner or ¡Todos Unidos! logos! Come to the Welcome Center so you can scan the QR code or check out the link on Facebook, Instagram or the Gardiner Website.
Throughout the year we want to recognize students who demonstrate certain traits. Throughout September and October, teachers are looking for students who demonstrate being responsible. At the end of October we’ll host a VIP breakfast, invite your family, and recognize you before school. You’ll also be recognized at an all-school assembly for the great things you do! Let’s go Gardiner Hawks!
Your attendance at school is important. When you’re not here, you miss out, and other people miss out on seeing you. Please take good care of yourself by getting enough sleep, drinking water, getting movement in every day, washing your hands, and dealing with stress.
Joke of the Day:
What's worse than finding a worm in your apple?
