Good Morning Gardiner Hawks! These are your announcements for Tuesday, April 16th

This is the last week for the Gardiner PTSO Flower Basket Fundraiser! Flower Baskets can be ordered using the online form, then drop off the payment in a sealed, labeled envelope to the front office. This is the last fundraiser of the year and will go towards end of year reward trip celebrations and more!

Today we have our first home Track & Field meet!  Gardiner will be hosting several other schools to compete.  This is a great opportunity to show your school spirit and to cheer on your friends!

Students, please remember that the same expectations apply at school events as during the school day.  The only thing that changes is that you can use your phone at the end of the school day.  If you choose to attend the Track & Field meet as a spectator, you must still be respectful, responsible, safe, and kind, just like you would during school hours.  Students still need to follow directions from adults and respond to requests appropriately.  Inappropriate behavior at a school event can result in a referral.  Let’s show all those other schools how great Gardiner Hawks can be!

Remember that we have begun tracking criteria to participate in the end of the year celebration activities for each grade level.  The end of year celebrations are a really cool day to get off campus, celebrate what we’ve done this year, and have some fun!  We want to make sure you finish the year strong by being respectful, responsible, safe and kind!  Starting today, through the celebration day we want to to encourage to ask yourself about your choices:

Is it respectful?

Is it responsible?

Is it safe?

Is it kind?

Next week is the last full week in the month of April!  We’re going to have a Spirit Week with dress up days!  Remember that all dressing up must follow our district’s dress code.  All images and words must be appropriate for school, staff must be able to identify you so you can’t have anything covering your face, your dress up can’t be disruptive to learning.

Monday is 90s Day

Tuesday will be Future Career Day

Wednesday will be Colors Day - look for posters to find your color to wear

Thursday will be Throwback to Spring Break (wear PJs, traveler clothes, what you wore on a vacation, etc.)

Friday is OC Spirit Day - wear your favorite Gardiner or Oregon City spirit wear

Are you interested in a career where you can work outside? Do you enjoy building things? Then a career as a heavy equipment operator might be right for you!Heavy equipment operators drive or control construction equipment, including bulldozers, forklifts, backhoes, dump trucks, cargo trucks, and hydraulic truck cranes. They operate this equipment to assist in the construction of structures, including bridges, roads, and buildings.

Heavy equipment operators usually specialize in one of three areas. Construction equipment operators handle loading and excavation machines that dig and lift sand, gravel, or earth. Paving and surface equipment operators use machines to spread concrete and asphalt during the construction of roadways. Pile-driver operators control equipment to hammer heavy beams of wood, concrete, and steel into the ground.

Heavy equipment operator responsibilities  include:

  • Operating heavy equipment following the company's operating safety policies and procedures.

  • Loading and unloading equipment from vehicles and trailers.

  • Ensuring company equipment, material, and the work site are maintained, kept clean, and stored in a safe manner.

  • Collecting and disposing of scrap, excess materials, and refuse.

  • Completing required paperwork, reporting, and other documentation.

There are few, if any, education requirements for becoming a heavy equipment operator. Most heavy equipment operators start out as apprentices, which includes three to four years of a combination of technical instruction and on-the-job or field training. Apprentices learn how to operate and maintain equipment during on-the-job training, and learn about safety practices and first aid.

On average, heavy equipment operators earn about $50,000 per year. Heavy equipment operators have an excellent job outlook. The U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics predicts that employment in this area will grow faster than the average for all occupations.

Joke of the Day:

What do you call it when it rains turkeys and chickens?

Fowl weather

Today’s lunch options from the kitchen include:

  • Teriyaki Chicken Wrap with Asian Veggies

  • Pizza with Salad - Cheese, Pepperoni, Sausage

  • Cheesy Bread with Salad

  • Grab & Go’s : Hummus Box, Salads, Sandwiches, Parfaits
